Macrocarpa Landscapes was born out of a love of native plants and wanting to share their beauty with the wider community. So much of how we live is entwined in nature, so why not do what we can to support our local ecosystems better?

Growing up on our family farm ‘Leewang’ in the Forbes shire, I developed a love for the land and an appreciation for its immense beauty and resilience. Seeing the land change through droughts, dust storms, floods and stable years, I saw that resilience in action. The seasonality experienced on farm is dramatic and the subsequent changes in the surrounding bushland always caught my eye. Fast-forward to year 12 and the dreaded “what am I going to do after school”. I knew I wanted to still be connected to the land and so a degree in environmental science sounded like a pretty great way to achieve this. My studies saw me move to Albury, NSW and complete a Bachelor of Environmental Science specialising in Ecological Conservation.

Whilst completing my Bachelor, I started work at a local gold mine as an Environmental Officer and later moved into the Environmental Systems Advisor role. I led the implementation of the site’s environmental management system and maintained the site’s compliance to ISO14001 through the facilitation of annual audits, incident investigations and site communication. In 2020, I took up an opportunity in the company’s corporate office in Sydney as Group Environmental Advisor. In this role I provided support to the site based environmental teams across Australia and Canada, particularly with reporting of ESG data relating to emissions, environmental risks and water security. I assisted with site environmental and compliance audits and supported the creation and implementation of environmental enhancement projects.

The move to Sydney during COVID presented many challenges and the time came that I wanted to be closer to home. In 2021, I started in the role of Senior Nursery and Propagation Operator at Forbes Shire Council. While working at Council I began studying my Diploma of Horticulture and had the opportunity to design and build the Forbes Endemic Garden. This landscaping project is situated at the Forbes Visitor Information Centre, showing locals and visitors alike the amazing diversity of our local native plant species as well as showcasing sustainable landscape practices.

In early 2024, Macrocarpa Landscapes was officially born, after years of wanting to tie my environmental science, agriculture and horticulture backgrounds together.

Here’s our little team - My partner Luke and I with our two boys, Mack and Teddy.

What is ‘Macrocarpa’?

Eucalyptus macrocarpa is a Western Australian native mallee that has incredible silver foliage and huge gum blossoms to 100mm in diameter. It is a plant that caught my eye and fed my love for our Australian native flora. I love this plant so much that I named my first born after it and now my business. We have a special potted ‘Mack’ tree here at home that I germinated from seed collected by Luke when I was pregnant with Mack. It’s a super special plant for our little family.
